Margiela Retrospective

Conceptual, influential, edgy – just a few words that describe the world of Margiela which is currently celebrated in an exhibition at London’s Somerset House. Titled Maison Martin Margiela 20, the exhibit opens today and runs through September 5, 2010.

According to Margiela’s intentionally raw website, the exhibit was conceived in close collaboration with Maison Martin Margiela and curated by the Mode Museum of Antwerp. It addresses major themes expressed over the past 20 years. And while Margiela, who remains anonymous, has retired from his label one year ago, the business is still widely successful with recent launches including a perfume at the beginning of the year. Numerous designers including Marc Jacobs have sighted Margiela as a reference and it is certain that Margiela’s influence will remain highly regarded for generations of designers to come.
