White Out: Givenchy S11 Ad Campaign

I think the majority of Spring 11 ad campaigns are eh, alright. Nothing out of the ordinary fashion spread if you ask me. Givenchy on the other hand I find STUNNING. The all-white looks on the runway were about ghostlike transparency, but in the ad campaign, focus is drawn in to the craftsmanship of the ruffles contrasted with zippers. The male figure in the back (albino model Stephen Thompson) is positioned as the ghostly transparent layer. The stark whiteness of the black and white ad and model Daphne Groeneveld’s deep stare add to the impact. I also love the way that her hair is in loose braids, which adds even more texture to the image. Photographed by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott.
