Tommy Hilfiger seems to have quite a winning streak as of late – from a cool ad campaign to his latest Fall 11 show which was described as “bohemian prep”. Well, about that. The collection evokes rocker girlfriends of the 70s, which turn out to be pretty damn cool – a departure from last season’s fitting country club theme. My favorite looks to come out of this are the ones above – the printed silk pajama sets, which in the context of 70s make perfect sense. But they also kind of brought me back to this moment..
Ah-ha! I knew it. While not exactly the same, you have to admit the striking similarities of this season Hilfiger pj’s and last season’s Celine patterned silk blouses and trousers. You must also consider each vision in context – Celine featured a few of those striking striped grid looks as part of a larger minimalist statement (which btw still resonates for Fall 11 at the likes of Derek Lam). The minimalism at Celine last season tended to overshadow the printed ensembles, even though they were still forward and new. Over at Tommy this season, keeping that rocker girlfriend in mind, the pajama looks seem to sit just right as part of a larger 70s bohemian statement.
