Missoni’s Soft Grunge

While not a key message from Milan Fashion Week, Missoni’s Fall 11 interpretation of soft grunge is of note. We saw 90s grunge emerge as a leading junior expression in New York, but what we saw there was all relatively familiar with traditional elements like languid silhouettes and parkas. Missoni’s take is much softer; even to the point of being pretty, in part due to the pastel color palette. Grunge elements were still present like the flowy maxi skirt as well as sweater dusters, pieced slip dresses and elongated sweaters. Whimsical sketched floral prints added to the romance of it all, and I’m sure a similar message will show up at retailers like Anthropologie come Fall.
