10 Non-Sale Reasons to Look Forward to Fall

I just finished my monthly sweep of all the womenswear stores covered on Fashion Snoops in July. Let me tell you there is A LOT of non-sale merchandise out there. This is surprising because last year at this time I was willing to sell my soul for a store with new merchandise.. or at the very least something that wasn’t in-store for the past 3 months.

Anyhow those of you Fashion Snoops subscribers will be thrilled to know that the Ladies July Monthly Overview is quite large and in charge, and will be posted on the site this week. Hint: anyone looking for South Western reference, you’ll have plenty of material to explore. But I’m not going to talk about the obvious right now. Here are my favorite 10 trends in retailers right NOW to get this party started for Fall 11.

1. Outerwear departments are finally stocked with more than parkas and trench coats. You know can’t wait to wrap yourself in FUR.

2. Too much? FUR TRIM is a good second option.

Printemps, Paris

3. This is a big one, relatively early on in the season. MENS OUTERWEAR is major from tailored coats to (more) tuxedo blazers.

4. Looking for a new theme to shop? 70s SPORTSWEAR didn’t exactly stick for Spring, however there is some indication that it will become more relevant for Fall. Tip: the midi silhouette isn’t as far fetched as you think.

Bloomingdales, NY

5. The BLOUSE. The mere term gives me a flashback to the days when people wore “slacks” but alas blouses are back in the contemporary market, in part thanks to the 70s. Double pocket and bow styles are featured as a new woven key item.

6. So far thick sweaters are still making their way into retailers, although the SWEATER DRESS is already front and center.

Printemps, Paris

7. Leopard is still a big deal in patterns. Le sigh. The good news is that DYE EFFECTS are introduced at retailers. Prime for patterned pants in case you missed that trend, or pretty much any other item.

Topshop, London

8. Maybe you’re craving something more familiar. Check out NEUTRAL BLOCKING, a more sophisticated expression of color blocking with neutral hues.

Printemps, Paris

9. Still craving LACE? The interesting thing is that retailers are positioning lace as a bridge between Summer and Fall collections. So you still have those Little White (leftover) Dresses, but there are also many dark and colored lace styles that move forward into Fall.

10. Last but not least, check out this EMBELLISHMENT. Tell me that’s not something to look forward to!
